Blake Lively Reveals Husband Ryan Reynolds Wrote ‘It Ends With Us’ Rooftop Scene

The cast of It Ends With Us is not just creating romantic chemistry on screen, but also behind the scenes. Blake Lively recently revealed that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, played a significant role in crafting one of the film’s pivotal moments.

Ryan Reynolds’ Secret Contribution

On the red carpet for the It Ends With Us premiere, Blake Lively disclosed to E! News that her husband, Ryan Reynolds, wrote the beloved rooftop scene in the film. “The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it,” Lively shared. “Nobody knows that, but you now.”

The scene is a crucial part of the narrative, depicting Lively’s character, Lily, meeting her future love interest and source of conflict, Ryle, played by Justin Baldoni. Baldoni, who also directed the film, worked closely with Lively to bring the story to life.

Lively emphasized the collaborative nature of their relationship, stating, “He works on everything I do. I work on everything he does. So his wins, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.”

Lively and Reynolds’ Creative Partnership

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are known for their strong partnership both on and off the screen. Lively recently appeared as Lady Deadpool in Reynolds’ hit film Deadpool & Wolverine, with their children, Inez and Olin, making cameos as Kidpool and Babypool. Additionally, the couple lent their voices to John Krasinski’s animated film IF.

Their real-life romance starkly contrasts the tumultuous relationship Lively portrays with Baldoni in It Ends With Us. The film, based on Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, is more than just a love story; it’s a powerful narrative about breaking cycles of intergenerational violence and trauma.

The Film and Its Controversies

It Ends With Us marks the first big-screen adaptation of a Colleen Hoover novel, with more adaptations in the pipeline, including her 2018 mystery Verity. Despite some controversy over the casting of Lively and Baldoni, who are playing characters significantly younger in the novel, Baldoni remains unbothered. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated, “It didn’t really bother me because the fact that they were talking about it was a beautiful thing.”

Hoover, who developed a close correspondence with Baldoni after he was moved by her book, played a crucial role in his casting as Ryle. She suggested he take on the role, believing he could do justice to the character.

With It Ends With Us set to hit theaters on August 9, audiences will soon judge Reynolds’ romantic dialogue writing and the on-screen chemistry between Lively and Baldoni. For now, fans can enjoy the blend of real-life love and cinematic storytelling that brings this adaptation to life.
