Robert Downey Jr. Returns as Tony Stark for Disneyland’s New Avengers Rides

Robert Downey Jr. is set to don the Iron Man suit once again, this time for a pair of new Avengers-themed rides at Disneyland’s California Adventure. Announced during Disney’s D23 convention, the beloved actor will reprise his iconic role as Tony Stark in two highly anticipated attractions that are part of the park’s Avengers Campus.

The announcement comes just weeks after it was revealed that Downey Jr. would be rejoining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Doctor Doom. Now, he’s also crossing back over to the good side as Tony Stark, much to the delight of fans.

Stark Flight Lab and Avengers Infinity Defense

Downey Jr.’s first role will be at the center of Stark Flight Lab, a thrilling ride where guests will experience a wild experiment in two-person robotic pods designed by Stark’s workshop. This ride promises to immerse visitors in the experience of flying using Stark’s cutting-edge technology.

The second attraction, Avengers Infinity Defense, will take guests on an epic journey across iconic MCU locations, such as Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City. The ride’s storyline involves a multiverse-spanning battle against King Thanos, a variant of the notorious villain, who has stolen Stark technology to wreak havoc across various worlds. “It’s gonna be all hands on deck as we assemble the Avengers to take on his army,” said Disney Portfolio Executive Creative Director Scott Trowbridge during the D23 presentation.

Expanding the Marvel Universe at Disneyland

The new rides are part of a broader expansion of Disneyland’s California Adventure park, which already features popular attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man rides. Avengers Infinity Defense will see fans joining forces with their favorite Marvel heroes to defeat King Thanos and recover the stolen technology. Concept art revealed during the event depicted intense battles and beloved characters from across the MCU, further exciting the D23 audience.

In addition to the Avengers rides, Disney also announced new attractions, including a Coco boat ride and an Avatar-inspired land, showcasing the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding its theme park offerings.

Downey Jr.’s return as Tony Stark, coupled with his upcoming role as Doctor Doom, highlights the actor’s continued involvement in the MCU and his enduring popularity with fans. As construction begins on these new attractions, Disney enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing these thrilling additions to the park in the near future.
