Charli XCX is all about the Bowen Yang parody. The “Talk Talk” singer opened up about Yang’s recent sketch on Saturday Night Live in which he impersonated her, and she was more than amused.
In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Charli shared her reaction to the Sept. 28 sketch, where Yang appeared in full Charli drag. “Oh no, no, no, I think SNL is iconic, and Troye [Sivan] and I had an inkling it was coming,” she said, hinting that she might have gotten a heads-up from her friend Bowen Yang. “We were very excited about it, and I love Bowen. Honestly, I think he did a great job. I was very impressed with the hair texture actually, I thought it was a really good wig.”
In the sketch, Yang hosted The Talk Talk Show with Charli XCX, a spoof on her recent song “Talk Talk“. Sporting Charli’s signature loose curls, a distressed pleather mini dress, and massive black sunglasses, Yang ran through segments like “Brat or Nat” and even poked fun at her joint tour with Troye Sivan, played by Sarah Sherman.
Fans of Charli have been excited about the pop star’s skyrocketing success since her album Brat dropped in June. Her meme-worthy album cover and collaborations with superstars like Billie Eilish and Lorde have made 2024 “Brat Summer.” Naturally, the cultural phenomenon of Charli XCX eventually landed on the iconic SNL stage.
With fans now hoping for Charli to be named as a musical guest on SNL’s 50th season, it’s clear her cultural dominance isn’t slowing down anytime soon. For Charli, the parody was all part of the ride, saying, “It was cool, it was fun.”
