The Game of Thrones universe expands once again, this time into the gaming world, with the reveal of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad. The highly anticipated video game, set to launch in 2025, premiered its new trailer during the Game Awards ceremony, giving fans a thrilling first look at Jon Snow’s return.
While the rumored Jon Snow TV spinoff remains in development limbo, fans of the beloved character, originally portrayed by Kit Harington in the Emmy-winning HBO series, can reconnect with him in this story-driven action-adventure RPG.
A New Adventure in Westeros
Set during the timeline of the original Game of Thrones series, Kingsroad offers players the chance to shape their destiny in Westeros. The game allows players to take on the role of a knight, a sellsword, or an assassin, each class offering unique skills and gameplay opportunities. As the Seven Kingdoms remain engulfed in the War of the Five Kings, the player embarks on a quest to restore the legacy of their house.
You’ll play as a bastard of House Tyre, a minor Northern house that shares thematic ties with Jon Snow’s own journey. Following the massacre of the Tyre heirs at the Red Wedding, the ailing head of House Tyre, Marrok Tyre, summons you to defend your ancestral home. Along the way, you’ll rally support across Westeros, align with the Night’s Watch, and attempt to convince the realm of the looming White Walker threat.
Familiar Faces Return
The trailer reveals several returning characters from the HBO series, including Jon Snow, Varys (originally played by Conleth Hill), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). In true Game of Thrones fashion, dragons make an appearance, hinting that Daenerys Targaryen could also play a role in the story.
“The game’s original storyline expands on that of the legendary TV series, allowing you to forge your own path amidst the power struggles of noble houses and the looming threat of what lies beyond the Wall,” reads an official description of the game.
