Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani might be one of music’s most synchronized couples — so much so that their latest music videos turned out eerily similar without them even realizing it. The country star revealed the surprising coincidence during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he explained how their separate creative processes resulted in almost identical videos.
The couple’s projects dropped simultaneously on November 15, with Shelton releasing his single “Texas” and Stefani unveiling Bouquet, her fifth album. “My single and her album both came out the exact same day,” Shelton told Kimmel. “I knew she had shot a music video for her song, ‘Somebody Else’s,’ but I hadn’t seen it because she’s very protective when she’s editing. She wants you to see the final product.”
A Perfect Match — Unintentionally
While Shelton waited to see Stefani’s finished video, he went ahead with filming his own for “Texas.” The Voice alum recalled showing Stefani the final cut, only for her to exclaim, “Oh my God, that’s my exact same video!”
In Shelton’s video, he’s seen sitting at a bar trying to track his girlfriend using geolocation as she drives down highways with a suitcase in her car. Eventually, she ends up in Texas, where she buries the suitcase and its tracker on a deserted road.
Meanwhile, Stefani’s video for “Somebody Else’s” also involves a journey — and some digging. In her story, she discovers a mysterious box in her closet, which she takes on a drive through winding roads. Upon arriving at an open field, she buries the box, which then blooms into a mountain of flowers.
A Cosmic Connection?
The couple laughed over the similarities. “There’s, like, this weird thing… There’s this suitcase that needs to be taken out in the country and buried and hidden — which I still don’t even know for sure why,” Shelton joked. “But it happens in her video that I didn’t know about, and it happens in my video that she didn’t know about.”
Host Jimmy Kimmel was quick to highlight the romantic undertones. “This sounds like a Hallmark Christmas movie,” he quipped. “You guys could make a very romantic film out of this!”
Creative Overlap, Happy Coincidence
Despite the uncanny parallels, the couple has taken it all in stride, showing just how aligned their creative instincts are. Shelton and Stefani, who tied the knot in 2021, have frequently collaborated musically but apparently don’t need to plan to be on the same wavelength.
Whether it’s in music, love, or life, Shelton and Stefani continue to prove they’re perfectly in sync — even when they don’t mean to be.
