In a groundbreaking announcement, Wilson Sporting Goods revealed its plans to launch a signature basketball collection in collaboration with Caitlin Clark, the rising star of the WNBA’s Fever. This partnership aims to honor and amplify Clark’s burgeoning legacy while ushering in innovation across the basketball landscape.
“Wilson has been a steadfast companion throughout pivotal moments in my career, and I’m thrilled to continue pushing the boundaries of basketball with them,” expressed Clark in a press release. “The opportunity to have my own basketball collection is surreal, and I’m eager to influence what it signifies for future generations of athletes.”
Wilson confirmed via email to CBS Sports that Clark is set to become the first female athlete to have a signature basketball collection with the renowned brand.
Clark’s journey to prominence culminated in her selection as the top pick by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft, following an illustrious collegiate career where she became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history at Iowa. Her remarkable achievements on the court, including two NCAA championship appearances, drew Wilson’s attention, leading to this collaboration.
Amanda Lamb, Wilson’s head of global brand, emphasized the brand’s commitment to celebrating trailblazers like Clark who redefine norms and leave an indelible mark on the sport. “Caitlin Clark is not only a record-breaking athlete but also a cultural icon who has significantly influenced the game,” Lamb stated. “We are immensely proud to partner with her in advancing basketball innovation both on and off the court.”
Wilson’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of basketball was showcased in 2021 with the unveiling of the official WNBA game ball ahead of the league’s 25th season. Additionally, the brand appointed Liz Cambage, then of the Las Vegas Aces, as the first WNBA player to join the Wilson Advisory Staff.
Since 2021, Wilson has actively collaborated with the WNBA, the WNBPA, and its players to expand its women’s basketball product lineup and release limited-edition collaborations. Notable signings include Sun guard Kahleah Copper and Sparks forward Azura Stevens.
To commemorate Clark’s impact, Wilson will unveil exclusive collections, starting with a signature basketball line scheduled for release later this year. The inaugural drop, launched on Tuesday, features three distinct laser engravings, including Clark’s iconic “get hype” celebration.
As a member of the Wilson family, Clark will play a pivotal role in testing, advising, and providing feedback on basketball products, contributing to advancements in the game at all levels. Furthermore, Wilson has pledged support to the Caitlin Clark Foundation, underscoring its commitment to empowering youth and communities through education, nutrition, and sport.
Beyond her partnership with Wilson, Clark’s influence extends to her endorsements with companies like State Farm, Gatorade, and Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Reports also indicate a lucrative $28 million deal with Nike, which includes the development of a signature shoe, further solidifying her status as a trailblazer in the world of basketball.
