Metallica has shared a heartfelt tribute to a fan who tragically passed away during their August 23 concert at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada. In a somber post on social media, the iconic heavy metal band expressed their sorrow over the loss of a man named Lorne, affectionately known as “Viking” by those close to him.
“We lost a Metallica family member at the show,” the band wrote, acknowledging the fan’s passing due to undisclosed health conditions. “Leaving the earthly body and onto the next adventure. Very sad when death happens, but we’re touched that he spent some of his final, hopefully joyful, time with us.”
The band extended their condolences to Lorne’s family and friends, expressing gratitude that he could experience their music in what may have been some of his final moments.
This isn’t the first time Metallica has faced such a tragedy. In 2000, during their Summer Sanitarium tour, a 21-year-old fan fell to his death at a Baltimore concert. The band, currently on their M72 World Tour in support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons, has just a few dates left before concluding the tour in Mexico City on September 29.
